
The Wilkes-Barre District A Committee will host “Party in the Park” in Miner Park , Old River Road , Wilkes-Barre, on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., to showcase the South Wilkes-Barre neighborhood. The event is free and open to the public.
“ Party in the Park is a way for us to build community spirit and show everyone what a great place South Wilkes-Barre is to live, work and do business,” said Sue Greenfield, committee member and co-organizer of the event. “It’s going to be a fun day for people of all ages.”
The event which is co-sponsored by The Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Campus of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, will begin at 10 a.m. with a 5K walk/run through South Wilkes-Barre starting in Miner Park. Pre-registration by Fri. Sept 2 costs $15 and includes a t-shirt and assorted gifts. Registration is open on the day of the race from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., costs $20 and t-shirt quantity and sizes will be limited.
A 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament is also scheduled to benefit the Meyers Boys Basketball Booster Club.
And this year we are adding some additional activities including a Car and Bike show and a demonstration by the Wyoming Valley RC Flyers Club.
The District A Fund, which is administered by the Luzerne Foundation, was created to support efforts to improve the quality of life for residents of the City of Wilkes-Barre. Together with the Luzerne Foundation and a team of dedicated volunteers, funds are being raised to maintain, repair and improve existing municipal and community facilities throughout the District, as well as to enhance the safety and security for all residents. By identifying and prioritizing projects within the District, the Fund will provide necessary services not funded by Wilkes-Barre city tax revenue.
